In the modern field of mechanical processing, carbide scroll die, as a significant type of thread forming tool, performs an irreplaceable role in industrial production due to its unique processing advantages and widespread application value. This article will comprehensively analyze the technical essentials of carbide scroll die from aspects such as material characteristics, processing technology, and application features.
Basic Features and Classification of Scroll Die
The scroll die (also known as the roller gear wheel) is primarily used for thread processing of workpieces on a rolling machine. Its operating principle exploits metallic plastic deformation to achieve external thread forming. It can be divided into grades 1, 2, and 3 in terms of precision levels, among which type 3 scroll dies are extensively adopted for their universality. According to structural features, it can be classified into two basic forms: type 45 and type 54.

Key Elements in Material Selection
When selecting scroll die materials, the following three core features require key consideration:
- Hardness: to ensure the mold can withstand various stresses during usage.
- Toughness: to prevent the mold from fracturing during operations.
- Abrasion resistance: to extend the mold’s service life and guarantee the dimensional accuracy of the processed thread.
Precision Processing Procedure
The manufacture of scroll die employs a professional procedure, which primarily includes:
- Rough forging → Heat treatment
- Mechanical processing → Inner hole hardening
- Thread rolling processing → Outer diameter annealing
- Final inspection
Temperature parameters must be strictly controlled during the heat treatment process:
- Initial annealing: 550-600℃, maintained for 2 hours
- Tempering treatment: 890±10℃, annealing for 4-6 hours
- Tempering process: 760±30℃, annealing for 6-8 hours
Key Factors Influencing Mold Performance
The actual performance of the die is affected by multiple factors, including:
- Physical properties of the rough material
- Design of thread parameters
- Installation precision of the mold
- Overall performance of processing equipment
- Control of process parameters
We are a professional manufacturer of tungsten carbide products. By reasonably controlling these factors, the service life and processing efficiency of scroll die can be significantly improved, ensuring the quality stability of processed products. Notably, scroll dies manufactured by rolling methods have a longer service life than those produced by lathe processing, a crucial economic value in actual production.
