Tungsten carbide is a specialized alloy synthesized through powder metallurgy processes, composed of refractory metal carbides and a binder metal. This material is renowned for its exceptional hardness, wear resistance, structural strength, toughness, high-temperature resilience, and corrosion resistance. tungsten carbide is particularly noted for its hardness and wear resistance, maintaining its performance at temperatures up to 500°C and still possessing high hardness at temperatures as high as 1000°C.

Specifically, tungsten carbides have a hardness range of 86 to 95 HRA (equivalent to 69 to 83 HRC), displaying excellent thermal hardness. They can maintain a hardness of 60 HRC even at temperatures of 900 to 1000°C, showcasing superior wear resistance. In practical applications, cutting tools made from tungsten carbide have cutting speeds 4 to 7 times faster than those made from high-speed steel and a lifespan that is 5 to 80 times longer. Similarly, in the manufacture of molds and gauges, the lifespan of tungsten carbide tools is 20 to 150 times longer than that of alloy tool steel, capable of machining materials with a hardness of about 50 HRC.
